If your dual-clutch gearbox is juddering, hesitating or dropping into limp mode, our London repair centres can find the cause and fix it, often without the cost of a new gearbox.
Our technicians repair both dry-clutch and wet-clutch DCTs on all major makes, from a Hyundai i30 or Mercedes A-Class through to the BMW M DCT. Every job starts with a proper diagnosis, and you get a confirmed price before any work begins. Repairs use manufacturer warranty-approved parts and are backed by our 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on parts and labour.

A dual-clutch transmission is effectively two gearboxes in one. One clutch handles the odd gears and the other handles the even gears, so the next gear is already pre-selected. A gear change is simply one clutch disengaging as the other engages, which gives fast, smooth shifts with no loss of drive. A mechatronic unit (the gearbox's hydraulic and electronic control centre) decides when to shift and operates the clutches.
Used in many smaller and mid-size cars. The clutches run without oil, which makes them efficient but more prone to wear and judder in stop-start traffic, a common issue for London drivers.
Found in more powerful cars. The clutches run in oil to cope with higher torque and heat. Old, low or contaminated gearbox oil is one of the most common causes of faults on these units.
Volkswagen Group DSG and Ford Powershift are also dual-clutch designs. See our dedicated DSG gearbox repairs and Powershift gearbox repairs pages.
DCT faults usually start small and get worse. Getting the gearbox checked early often means a smaller repair bill.
Heavy traffic and hill starts wear the clutch packs, causing slip and judder.
Valve, pressure and solenoid problems in the mechatronic unit cause erratic or failed shifts.
Faulty sensors or a failing control unit can trigger warning lights and limp mode.
Old, low or contaminated oil leads to overheating and accelerated wear on wet-clutch units.
Worn selector forks, actuators and release bearings cause noise and selection faults.
A worn flywheel can mimic gearbox faults, with rattles and vibration at idle.
Describe the symptoms to one of our specialists and we'll tell you the likely cause and the next step.

New dual-clutch packs fitted and set up correctly.
Repair or replacement of the mechatronic unit.
TCU faults, software updates and reprogramming.
Worn internal components replaced.
Oil leaks traced and seals replaced.
Complete strip-down, rebuild and test.
A quality reconditioned unit when repair isn't viable.
Many DCT faults don't need a new gearbox. We find the real cause first, then repair only what needs repairing.
We test the gearbox properly to pinpoint the fault. The diagnostic report is usually ready within 2–3 days.
We explain the fault, the repair we recommend and the confirmed price. Nothing starts without your approval.
The work is carried out with OEM or manufacturer warranty-approved parts and the correct gearbox oil.
Clutch and gear adaptations are reset so the gearbox relearns them, then the car is road tested.
We repair dual-clutch gearboxes on every major manufacturer. These are some of the most common models we see at our London centres.

Not every version of these models has a DCT gearbox. If you're unsure what's fitted to your car, give us a call and we'll check for you.
The most common signs are judder when pulling away, jerky or delayed gear changes, a flashing gear display or warning light, unusual noises, and the gearbox slipping or going into limp mode.
We don't recommend it. Continuing to drive can turn a clutch or sensor fault into much more extensive internal damage. If your car isn't safe to drive, we can arrange collection.
Judder is usually caused by clutch wear, the condition of the gearbox oil, or clutch adaptation values drifting out of range. A diagnosis will confirm whether a relearn, oil change or clutch replacement is needed.
It depends on the fault and the gearbox. A software relearn costs far less than a clutch replacement or full rebuild. We diagnose the fault first and give you a confirmed price before any work starts.
The diagnostic report is usually ready within 2–3 days. Repair time then depends on the work needed and parts availability, and we'll give you a timescale when we agree the plan.
Most DCT faults can be repaired without replacing the gearbox. Replacement with a reconditioned unit is only recommended where the internal damage is extensive or a repair wouldn't be cost-effective.
No. We use manufacturer warranty-approved parts, so your warranty is protected. We're also approved by many warranty providers and can deal with your provider on your behalf.
A well-maintained DCT can last the life of the car. Dry-clutch units are more sensitive to heavy stop-start traffic, so London driving can wear the clutches sooner.
Fixed price agreed upfront. Manufacturer warranty-approved parts. 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on every repair.
