Is your Fiesta, Focus or Kuga juddering when you pull away, or showing a "Transmission Malfunction" warning? Our London repair centres specialise in Ford Powershift dual-clutch gearboxes and can usually fix the fault without replacing the whole unit.
We repair both the dry-clutch DPS6 and the wet-clutch MPS6, covering clutch replacement, TCM reprogramming and recalibration, rebuilds and replacements. Every job starts with a proper diagnosis and a confirmed price. Repairs use manufacturer warranty-approved parts and are backed by our 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on parts and labour.

Powershift is Ford's six-speed dual-clutch automatic. It uses two clutches, one for odd gears and one for even, and a transmission control module (TCM) times each shift. There are two main versions, and they tend to fail in different ways.
Fitted mainly to petrol Fiesta, Focus and C-MAX models. This is the version most associated with judder, often caused by oil from a leaking input shaft seal contaminating the dry clutch.
Found in the Mondeo, Kuga, S-MAX and Galaxy, plus diesel Focus and C-MAX models. Faults usually involve the clutch packs, solenoids, the TCM or degraded transmission fluid.
Not a Ford? See our DCT gearbox repairs page for Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes and BMW, or DSG gearbox repairs for VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda.
Powershift faults rarely fix themselves, and stop-start London traffic is especially hard on the clutches. The sooner it's checked, the smaller the repair is likely to be.
Normal wear, or oil from leaking input shaft seals on dry-clutch units.
A failing control module causes warning lights, erratic shifts and limp mode.
Worn actuators and forks cause poor engagement and missed gears.
Common on wet-clutch units, causing harsh or delayed shifts.
Degraded or low transmission fluid leads to overheating and wear.

Not every automatic version of these models uses a Powershift gearbox. If you're unsure what's fitted to your car, give us a call and we'll check for you.
Powershift is Ford's dual-clutch automatic gearbox, developed with Getrag. It uses two clutches to pre-select the next gear, giving quick shifts without a traditional torque converter.
Powershift was fitted to automatic versions of the Fiesta, Focus, B-MAX, C-MAX, EcoSport, Kuga, Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy, among others. Not every automatic version uses it, so call us if you're unsure what your car has.
They work in a very similar way. DSG is the Volkswagen Group's dual-clutch gearbox, and the two share many of the same faults and repair methods.
Judder is usually caused by worn clutches, oil contaminating a dry clutch from a leaking input shaft seal, or clutch adaptation settings that need resetting. Some cases are fixed with a TCM update and recalibration, while others need a new clutch.
Yes. The clutch can be replaced without replacing the whole gearbox, followed by a clutch adaptation. If oil contamination caused the wear, the leaking seals are replaced at the same time.
We don't recommend it. Driving on a faulty Powershift can overheat the clutches and lead to a sudden loss of drive. If your car isn't safe to drive, we can arrange collection, subject to availability.
When you're held on a hill or in slow London traffic, use the footbrake or handbrake rather than the accelerator to hold the car. Holding it on the throttle slips the clutches and builds heat.
It depends on the fault and the parts needed. A targeted repair, such as a seal, actuator or TCM fix, usually costs far less than a replacement gearbox. We diagnose the fault first and confirm the price before any work starts.
No. We use OEM or manufacturer warranty-approved parts, so your warranty is protected, and we can deal with your warranty provider on your behalf. Every repair is covered by our 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on parts and labour.
